Meet our Pastor & First Lady

Committed to Building a Community Through Faith, Hope, Love, Power, and Perseverance

At West Tabernacle Church, our leaders are Pastor Anthony Roy Shelton and Lady Minister Joan Shelton. Through their compassion and faith, we've built a welcoming church community. Our outreach includes the King's Kitchen, Christian education classes, and more.

Pastor Anthony Roy Shelton

Pastor Anthony Roy Shelton was born on December 2, 1959, to Levi and Margaret Shelton in Houston, Texas. He received his education in the Houston Independent School District, and he graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School.

Pastor Shelton confessed and accepted his calling at the age of 15 under the leadership of Pastor Samuel H. Smith of Mt. Horeb Missionary Baptist Church. Shelton is a postgraduate of the College of Biblical Studies, formerly known as the Institute of Biblical Studies, with a Master's Degree in Theology. He has served as the pastor of the West Tabernacle Church since 1989, and he founded West Tabernacle New Waverly Church, on November 1, 2015.

Pastor Shelton is known throughout Conroe for his work in the community as the chaplain for the Conroe Police Department, assistant chaplain for the Montgomery County Jail, and chaplain for Judge Mack, Precinct 3. He also serves as a board advisor of the Juvenile and Municipal Court for Judge Michael Davis and a board member at Lone Star Hospital.

Pastor Shelton’s mission is to build people of faith, hope, love, power, and perseverance through a variety of methods:
  • Teaching the people of God the principles of Kingdom living
  • Providing an atmosphere for authentic praise and worship
  • Preparing the people of God for personal evangelism
  • Equipping the saints for the work of the ministry
  • Reaching out to people and providing for the physical and spiritual needs of the poor, the elderly, the homeless, the destitute, the downtrodden, the abused and the forgotten

Pastor Shelton is married to Joan. They have two sons, Coy and Devin, and two grandchildren, Dayshaun and Coylyn.

Lady Minister Joan Shelton

Lady Minister Joan Shelton is a retired federal official who worked with the Department of Justice and the Department of Homeland Security for almost 35 years. She is a graduate of the College of Biblical Studies with a degree in Biblical Counseling. She is an ordained minister of the West Tabernacle Church.

Mrs. Shelton is married to Pastor Anthony R. Shelton, who is the senior pastor of the West Tabernacle Church in Conroe, Texas. They have two children, Devin and Coy, and two grandchildren, Dayshaun and Coylyn.

Mrs. Shelton began an outreach ministry in January 2013 that delivers weekly meals to seniors. The King’s Kitchen has provided over 3,500 hot meals to our seniors, in addition to feeding the poor, indigent, and homeless since 2007.

Mrs. Shelton also offers counseling services at the Church based on the principles of the follower of Christ promoting the attributes of God’s unconditional love as a daily lifestyle.

Mrs. Shelton enjoys reading, working out, listening to music and of course, spending time with her grandchildren. She is a Christian who loves to study history and the Bible. Mrs. Shelton also enjoys surfing the internet, social media, backyard gatherings, cookouts, and entertaining family and friends.

Mrs. Shelton’s plans for the future include traveling and working with children and young people. She hopes to instill a love of books in young people. She wants to travel to Africa and to the Holy Land.

Her favorite Bible verse is Esther 4:14b: “Yet who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a times as this?” (NKJV)

She believes that America is the greatest country in the world. She would like to see all people who make up this great melting pot come together and unite as Americans, regardless of race, religion or politics. Mrs. Shelton’s philosophy is to believe in God, believe in oneself, love and respect others, and to know that each has a responsibility to God to make our world a better place.
The Lord has bestowed His Favor upon our church, and for this, we are grateful!
